FE Report-January 31,2012 Tuesday
A share investor allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his house at Gopibagh in the capital Monday, the police and family members said.
The deceased was identified as Kazi Liakat Ali alias Juboraj (40), who used to reside at a flat of a multi-storied building located at 46/J/6 of the area along with his families.
Momtaz Begum, mother-in-law of the victim, said Juboraj requested her to pick up his daughter, who is studying at a kindergarten school, home at about 10:00am.
"After arrival, we found his hanged body," she said, adding that her son-in-law looked very frustrated in the morning.
The victim's wife Tahmina Akhter Sathi, a teacher of Shahid Nabi School, told reporters that her husband recently incurred huge financial losses in the stock market which might have led him to take his own life.
She said Juboraj was the BO (beneficiary owners) account holder in Al-Arafah Islami Bank Brokerage House. His trading identity (ID) number is 531.
Sharif, brother-in-law of Juboraj said he hanged himself by using a scarf from the ceiling fan. "He was the victim of forced sale by the security house," he added.
Rejecting the allegation of forced sale, managing director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Brokerage House Rezaur Rahman told the FE that latest sale of the account holder has been recorded more than six months ago on July 24, in 2011.
"The allegation of forced sale brought against us was not true at all," he said.
He said the investor started trading in the capital market by investing Tk 1.5 million and then he gained remarkable profit and increased his investment to Tk 3.9 million.
"Juboraj recently got margin loan of Tk 3.0 million from us and invested the amount in the share market. But unfortunately value of the shares he purchased has come down significantly," he said.
The victim hailed from Azimnagar village in Manikganj and was also a printing businessman.
